Is Chronic Pain Genetic?

I came across the following headline and wanted to share some thoughts after reading the article:

Chronic pain IS genetic: How long you hurt after a traumatic injury depends on your DNA, study finds
[Original Article]

I am not here to debate the science behind the article.  I agree that your genes can change after a traumatic incident, and can affect the chemicals released within your body.  My problem with the article is the overall positioning of the cause & affect model they are implying: that you are at the mercy of your genes and have no control over these processes.  Wrong!  Don't be a victim of propaganda.

In his book "You are the Placebo: Making your Mind Matter", Dr. Joe Dispenza discribes how your mind and body are able to change genes, get rid of pain, disease, cancer... through meditation, yoga... being "in the moment" instead of having a victim mindset and feeling like you need someone to fix you.  It's too easy to focus on the science and remove your ability to control your own health.

  • “If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks…will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered…. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.”
